[SUMMER HOUSE M&M]

private investor, 2023 located on the island near Zadar

concept design

creating spaces with microurbanism . rigid urbanism . human base vs natural carpet

The house and all the exterior spaces are placed on a central base measuring approx. 22 x 20 m, while the rest of the plot is “unorganized” horticulture, which finds inspiration in the surrounding Mediterranean maquis shrubland.

The base is summer & spring & autumn & winter living room.

We place 5 separate volumes, forming a U-shaped floor plan open to the SW. An intimate void is created in the middle of the base, to insure intimacy from neighbours and focus on a greenery of an empty plot in front. In the future, when the neighbouring plot becomes a building plot and the greenery disappears, maquis can occur between the base and the border.

The largest volume is placed over 4 ground volumes, thus creating miroambients, passages, shadows, hidings, …

The base of the house is defined as a monolith and is made of concrete, while the volumes are finished with white plaster. Parts of the facade receive vertical slats in a wood or earth tone.
